Warriors’ Klay Thompson calls Grizzlies player a ‘freakin’ bum’ after NBA Finals win

That reputation might change given Thompson’s remarks after winning the NBA Finals over the Boston Celtics on Thursday night. Among all of the possible storylines to talk through — his recovery from two devastating injuries, his continuity with teammates Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, his feud with Celtics fans, to name a few — Thompson found time to discuss … an opponent from two playoff series ago.

“This was a collective effort so ‘Strength in Numbers’ is alive and well,” Thompson told reporters of the team’s slogan after the game. “There was this one player on the Grizzlies who tweeted, ‘Strength in Numbers,’ after they beat us in the regular season and it pissed me off so much. I can’t wait to retweet that thing. Freakin’ bum.”

The Memphis Grizzlies’ player is Jaren Jackson Jr., who did indeed tweet, “Strength in numbers,” followed by a clapping emoji on March 28. In that game, the Grizzlies beat a Warriors team that did not have Curry, Thompson or Green 123-95.

“I was like, this freaking clown,” Thompson said. “OK, OK, OK, sorry. That memory just popped up. You’re going to mock us? Like, you ain’t ever been there before, bruh. We’ve been there, we know what it takes, so to be there again, hold that.”
